Thank you for participating in our second annual dance recital. The recital will be held at the Sequim High School Auditorium on June 25 and June 26, 2011 at 3:00 p.m.  All classes will be dancing both Saturday and Sunday.

There are many components involved in staging a recital and so we ask that you carefully read through this information. If you have any questions, please ask at the front desk.

Costumes have arrived and will continue to arrive into late-May. We will be handing out the costumes to you in classes in early June. When you get your costume it will already have been pressed and will be ready to wear. The costume will have already been tried on in class. If any alterations are necessary we will inform you and ask you to visit our seamstress who will make the alterations at no cost to you.  However, if you have signed for your costume and have not made an alteration appointment within one week, we cannot alter it.  Costumes cannot be altered the same week as the recital. Remember, costumes are never a perfect fit and your costume will not feel like your regular clothes.

Please remember that costumes are just that—they are not street clothes and should not be worn to play in before the recital. Any damage that occurs after you receive the costume will be your responsibility to fix, not the responsibility of Aspire Academy or the seamstress.

Photos

Dance photos are optional but most students will choose to participate. We do not collect the fees for photos at registration—they are optional and you will need to pay the photographer, Collins Photography, directly. Order forms will be available at the desk soon and you can turn your completed form in anytime before picture day.  Picture day will be held on SATURDAY, JUNE 11.  Please see the schedule posted at Aspire.

Hair and Makeup

The teachers will hand out a sheet detailing how dancers should wear their hair and make-up for the photos and the recital. Please remember that photo makeup should be considerably lighter than recital makeup. At the recital makeup is heavier to compensate for stage lighting. If you lose your makeup instruction sheet please call Aspire or stop by the front desk for a new copy.

Rehearsals

Rehearsals are held BOTH Wednesday and Thursday, June 22 and 23 and BOTH are absolutely mandatory. It is essential that dancers get a sense of the stage and an opportunity to practice at the actual recital hall. All rehearsals are at Sequim High School Auditorium, not at Aspire Academy.

Students in all classes should arrive with makeup and hair done for the THURSDAY rehearsal only (just wear dance clothes for Wednesday’s rehearsal). Students need to come 10 minutes prior to their scheduled stage time

Time

On Saturday and Sunday dancers should be in the High School Cafeteria at least 60 minutes before the recital starts or as directed by your teacher. The doors to the auditorium will also open 60 minutes before start time.

Recital—Seating

All seating is unreserved and on a first-come-first-served basis.

Performer’s Entry

All performers must enter at the performer’s entry, not through the main auditorium doors. This entry will be clearly marked.

Where Dancers Go Backstage

At the rehearsal we have a posting of the order of the dances. This is also posted at the Aspire a few weeks before the recital. Each dance is numbered. There will be numbered signs in the cafeteria. Dancers should wait at the table with the sign with their number on it.   Dancers in more than one dance should wait under the sign of their first dance number.

Please do not loiter backstage with the students. Please drop them off with the parent volunteer for their class and leave the cafeteria area. It is very hard to get organized when we have people other than dancers and parent volunteers in the cafeteria and backstage.

Costumes and Makeup

Dancers should arrive in full costume and makeup. The only thing that they should need to change into is proper dance shoes. Dancers who are in more than one dance should have their second costumes with them to change into immediately after their first dance.

Backstage

Parents are not allowed to remain backstage with the dancers unless they are a parent volunteer. Dancers remain backstage for the duration of the recital with the exception of  ballet students ages 6 and younger who all dance before the intermission.

Parent Volunteers

We need a parent volunteer for each class of students under the age of 13. The job of the parent volunteer is to keep the children together and quiet backstage. The parent volunteer gets to come onstage (in the wings where the audience cannot see them) so they do not miss their child’s dance.

Intermission

At the intermission all ballet dancers 6 and under will be released back to their parents. Parents must come to the cafeteria and sign your child out with the parent volunteer. If younger students want to stay and watch the recital they do not require a ticket but they may have to sit on a parent’s lap.

 Food

No food or drink is allowed backstage except water. It is best to have dancers eat before the recital and maybe have a small snack just before coming backstage. Please send dancers with a bottle of water and little ones with something to keep them occupied such as coloring books.

 Recital Length

We are attempting to keep the recital to 2 hours long (including the 15 minute intermission).

 Photography

Absolutely no flash photography is permitted in the recital.  Video taping is allowed this year!!!  You may not block the aisles, anyone's view or use lighting.

Tickets

Each family is given 2 free tickets to the recital if they help in some capacity with the recital. Dancers do not require tickets. Additional tickets can be purchased at Aspire for $5.00 or at the door for $8.00.  Lost tickets will not be refunded. No free tickets will be issued at the door; these must be picked up at Aspire Academy
